Is readily known that the concern that "switchblade" or "butterfly" knives originates from the portrayal of said knives in film and television during the first half of the twentieth century.
Any modern folding knife is just accessible. Or if someone is intent in on committing violence with a bladed object, a kitchen knife works perfect well - as is evident by the fact that the majority of the "knife crimes" in the UK's "knife crime epidemic" of the past decade. The policy have readily documented the type of bladed object used in these crimes, and in excess of 80% are committed with HOUSEHOLD CUTLERY - despite the fact that carrying even kitchen knives in public is illegal in the UK.
In fact the increasing amount of regulations/prohibition that have been passed by Parliament to address UK knife has no impact on the still increasing annual number of these crimes - in this regard, these laws banning the carry and ownership knives that are described "more dangerous" are corellated with an INCREASE in KNIFE CRIME. That is factually undeniable.
So hopefully it is understood why I ask if this is parody - as REALITY stands in stark contradiction to the claims made in this article - and to humorous degree.
Worse still, these overwhelmingly impact people of color disproportionately.
So please tag this as parody in the byline when you have time.
Butterfly knives and automatic knives, also known as switchblades
switchblades
A switchblade (also known as switch knife, automatic knife, pushbutton knife, ejector knife, flick knife, gravity knife, flick blade, or spring knife) is a pocketknife with a sliding or pivoting blade contained in the handle which is extended automatically by a spring when a button, lever, or switch on the handle or ...
, are both considered more dangerous than regular knives due to their ease of use and quick deployment. Butterfly knives, also known as balisongs, are hinged knives that can be opened and closed quickly with one hand.
These knives are extremely dangerous if you sharpen them and attempt to perform tricks beyond your ability, such as “aerial” stunts in which you toss the spinning blade up into the air and catch it. If you miss you can stab yourself in the hand.
A typical pocketknife has a single piece handle in which the cutting edge of the blade fits when the knife is closed. A butterfly knife is a pocketknife in which the handle has two parts. When the butterfly knife is closed, the blade is completely enclosed by the two-part handle.
Butterfly knives are considered switchblades in CA. As such, you can own them and play with them in your home, but you can't legally carry any that are over 2" in blade length.
Switchblades have fast-moving sharp edges, and often more than one. Always know the path the blade wants to take, and keep anything you don't want to cut out of the way. Switchblades often have springs inside them, and they push on the handle as well as the blade.
A dull blade is actually more dangerous to use than one that is sharp. Here's why: A dull blade needs more pressure to cut, increasing the chance that the knife will slip with great force behind it. A sharp knife "bites" the surface more readily.
Knives are useful tools for preparing food, but they can also be dangerous. Handling a knife: Keep fingertips curled under the hand that is holding the food. Point the blade away from your body when cutting, washing, or drying a knife.
The balisong, also known as a butterfly knife, has been banned in multiple countries because it is commonly used for criminal activities and can be easily hidden. Legal status. The balisong has been outlawed in several countries, mainly due to its easy utility in crimes and ability to be easily concealed for the same purpose. In some jurisdictions its criminal use is considered a knife crime.
Swords are legal in Georgia, given the blade length is no longer than 12 inches. You would require a weapons license for open or conceal carry if the blade length exceeds 12 inches.
This includes a “pocketknife” or “Swiss army knife,” box cutter, or “utility knife.” According to California Penal Code Section 17235, all folding knives are legal in the state and may be concealed as long as they are in the folded position. There is also no restriction on the blade length of a folding knife.
Under Penal Code 21510 PC, butterfly knives are considered a form of a switchblade and are illegal in California. Specifically, it is a crime to carry, possess in public, sell, or otherwise transfer a butterfly knife. Convictions are misdemeanor offenses that carry up to 6 months in jail.
Whatever your reasons, you carry a knife. But however secure it makes you feel - the blade you carry - there's a sharper truth: you're more likely to be stabbed with your own knife than anyone else's. By carrying a knife, you're potentially arming your attacker. Potentially signing your own death warrant.
Sharp knives are much, much, safer. I can understand how this may seem counterintuitive. The reason why is that when cutting or slicing an object, and not risk cutting yourself, you need the knife edge to “bite” into the object you are cutting.

Executing maneuvers with a butterfly knife requires utmost caution and attention to where your digits are in relation to the blade, even if you have protective gloves on. By taking this precautionary step, you can avoid potential injury or any other unpleasant outcomes.
While top butterfly knives offer versatility, their improper use poses inherent risks. The sharpness of the blade, combined with the flipping maneuvers, can lead to accidental cuts or injuries. Additionally, inexperienced users may struggle with control, increasing the risk of mishandling and accidents.
